Going to a healthcare centre may seem daunting for some, we get that, so here’s some ideas to help get you through those doors.
It’s normal to go to a healthcare centre
Some of us seem to think going to the health centre is rocket science. It ain’t even a science. Just a matter of walking in, saying what you want, getting what you need and popping out. It’s also a good idea to go and get checked up. You need to care about yourself and your health, so shoot your shot and check out a health centre today.
They’ve seen it all before!
Whatever your going to ask or to be checked for, the health workers have seen it all before (prolly hundreds of times). You will not be the first person who they’ve examined, who’s asked why something hurts or why you’ve got a spot in an odd place. The chance is they’ve already seen someone that day or week asking exactly the same! They probably have all the answers you need or a clue beforehand, so use them!
Don’t compare yourself to others
Just because none of your mates have talked about going to a healthcare centre doesn’t mean they’ve never set foot in one. So stop worrying about their opinions, or what they’re doing about their sexual health. Focus on yourself! If you need to go, do it, because your health is yours alone. Do you.
Write it out
If your heads all fuzzy on what you want to know or ask, try writing it down! Seeing it on a page in front of you can help get it straight in your head what your asking and you’ll be less nervous going in if you have a few direct questions to ask.
Believe in yourself
You have the right to access knowledge and services on your sexual health. So believe in this right and exercise it. A little belief can go a long way!
Now you’ve got these five steps we expect y’all to be flooding through the doors of your nearest centres to get the down-low on your sexual health, and to make informed decisions.
