Office/Unit/Project Description

Launched on 25 September 2018 at the General Assembly by the UNDP Administrator, SDG Impact seeks to refine UNDP’s offering to the private sector by launching a new platform that would provide investors (financial and corporate), with clear guidance, tools, and insights to catalyze and leverage SDG aligned investments. By promoting the development and adoption of universally agreed standards for SDG-enabling investment and supporting private sector actors to meet those standards, UNDP can catalyze much-needed private capital in support of the achievement of the SDGs.

SDG Impact’s goal is to significantly increase the inflow of financial investment from the private sector toward enterprises and projects that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. To do this, SDG Impact will become the one-stop-shop for investors of all types – from purely profit-seeking to purely philanthropic – to access the information, tools, and resources that they need to understand SDG-enabling investment standards, learn about SDG-enabling sectors and themes, and identify specific opportunities for investment at the market and enterprise level.

As the UN’s implementing arm of the SDGs, UNDP is well-positioned to provide standards and guide the accompanying certification for what constitutes SDG-enabling impact management practice.
