Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) is a non-governmental organization that provides Development Communication services aimed at influencing positive behaviors for the social development of men, women, and children. CDFU with support from UN Women, the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, and the Government of Sweden is implementing a 4-year Multi-Media- Multi-Channel project called Make Happiness Not Violencia as part of the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Programme, and EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to end Violence Against Women and Girls. The campaign aims to promote favorable social norms, attitudes, and behaviors at community and individual levels to prevent violence and improve SRHR in Uganda. The campaign is implemented in 22 districts in sub-regions of Karamoja, Teso, Acholi, West Nile, Western, and Kampala.

CDFU seeks to recruit a qualified, competent, and highly motivated Ugandan to fill in the position below:

Position: Media and Communications Officer

Reports to: Project Coordinator, Make Happiness Not Violence

Commitment: Full time

Location/ Duty Station: Kampala CDFU office

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

The ideal candidate for the Media and Communications officer position should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, ICT, or equivalent. Display in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and how each platform can be utilized in a different scenario. Proven ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and digital format. Good team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary; content development, creation, and editing; and online reputation management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude. Excellent writing skills, preferably with experience in writing feature articles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage presence on online platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar sites, and posting relevant blogs and podcasts;

Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, including online advocacy, writing editorial, outreach efforts, promotions, etc.

Keep up-to-date on communications and digital industry standards and trends;

Generate, monitor, gather, and interpret analytics, conduct preliminary analysis and reports on the effectiveness and influence of CDFU’s social media communications tools for reaching and engaging target audiences and on key performance indicators;

Monitor, review, and analyze comments and conversations on CDFU’s social media sites and also on external social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. to identify insights, emerging trends, risks, and impact on CDFU, looking for opportunities for engagement; liaise and consult with colleagues for appropriate actions;

Work closely with M&E, and Hotline teams to coordinate research and innovation around the use of Hotline to generate feedback from the community and analysis of data generated to inform program implementation;

Assist in the design and effective implementation of the CDFU media strategy and action plan;

Effectively liaise/network with a group of core media personnel and journalists to develop and encourage partnerships between CDFU and the media for media and advocacy support;

Ensure adequate media coverage for all program activities and functions;

Support in the design, management, maintenance, and continuous development of the CDFU website, intranet, and information database in conjunction with the Website Manager;

Assist in the development of media communication products and press materials for awareness-raising, talking points for radio/TV talk shows, draft media/press briefings and releases;

Lead the synthesis of stories, newsletters, e-news, videos, and social media updates before major events with the right media partners, ensuring documents are uploaded on the website and social media platforms promptly;

Develop, lead, and manage storytelling strategy and implementation to capture the Make Happiness Not Violence campaign impact;

Develop recommendations on how to respond to complex and sensitive social media inquiries and issues and review them with the Project Coordinator/Management;

Support program partners in media and communications-related capacity building.
