On May 28, 2023, RAHU (Reach A Hand Uganda) and its partners organized a remarkable art event called "UN DO THE TABOO" in celebration of International Menstrual Hygiene Day. The event took place at Motiv Buglobi and attracted participation from more than 20 schools. A painting competition was held, and after careful consideration by a panel of four professional judges, St. Janan Luwumu emerged as the winners.
The students were treated to captivating performances by various cultural icons, including Ykee Benda, Laica, and Ruyonga, who delighted them with their fabulous rap music. Miss Uganda, Hannah Karemah, graced the occasion and delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging teenagers to embrace boldness and bravery in all aspects of their lives.
The event concluded with remarks from Humphrey Nabimanya, the CEO and founder of Reach A Hand Uganda. Nabimanya addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). He also encouraged young boys to support their sisters during challenging times, particularly when it comes to menstruation.
Overall, the event successfully raised awareness about menstrual hygiene and provided a platform for young people to express themselves through art while promoting important conversations around SRHR.
