2023 Tilga Art Fund Uganda Edition

ABOUT THE GRANT:
Tilga Art Fund is now accepting applications from artists between the ages of 18 and 30 working and living in Uganda, or of Ugandan descent. Applicants are invited to submit proposals as individuals or as groups across a variety of creative disciplines that include photography, painting, sculpture, illustration or multidisciplinary arts. The grant is intended to support early career artists in developing their practice through any project of their choosing.
THE AWARD:
• Four artists will be selected as finalists
• Each finalist will receive $2,000 grant
The top ranked artist would receive an expense paid
residency at G.A.S. Farm House or G.A.S Lagos in Nigeria courtesy of Guest Artists Space (G.A.S) Foundation and Yinka Shonibare Foundation
The residency would be available either in August/September, 2023 or January/February, 2024
• Additional benefits include: • Mentorship by established artists
• Potential local exhibition with Reach A Hand Uganda and Global Living Institute
• Potential global exposure through use of created art work in support of Reach A Hand Uganda’s campaign “Undo the Taboo”
• Potential global publicity by all supporting partners
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A portfolio of 6 to 8 digital images of most recent artworks
• Ideal in jpg files or photos of 300 dpi or higher (max of 10MB) or videos (not to exceed 5 mins)
Include the title of each work with the medium and date. If not titled, please write “untitled”. This could be captioned under each artwork or included in an attached checklist
A conceptual proposal to create artwork addressing Reach A Hand Uganda’s “Undo the Taboo” campaign
The campaign intends to:
Raise awareness and eliminate stigma surrounding menstruation by promoting menstrual hygiene management among young women in Uganda while also advocating for a sustainable and eco-friendly future Raise fund to distribute 50,000 reusable pads to young people in schools and communities
A CV or Resume
One reference letter from tutors, artists and/or art professionals
