Undo the Taboo Schools Art Competition “Promoting Menstrual Hygiene and Climate Justice Through Art”

The “Undo the Taboo” campaign by Reach A Hand Uganda is a multifaceted initiative that aims to address menstrual hygiene management and climate justice among young people in Uganda. One of the key activities of the campaign is the “Undo the Taboo” arts competition, which takes place on May 28th, Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day. The competition brings together 30 schools to compete against each other.

The arts competition is a creative initiative that encourages young people in secondary schools to showcase their artistic talents while raising awareness and advocating for menstrual hygiene management and climate justice. Through their artwork, participants challenge the taboos and stigmas surrounding menstruation and promote a more sustainable and equitable future.

The competition serves as a platform for young voices to be heard and for their artistry and skills to be showcased. It aims to amplify the importance of menstrual hygiene and address the lack of accessibility to art markets for young artists. In addition to promoting creative expression, the competition also serves as a fundraising approach for the campaign.

The exhibition during the arts competition not only showcases innovative solutions for menstrual hygiene challenges, but also leverages the platform to raise funds to support the “Undo the Taboo” arts competition itself. By combining creative innovation with fundraising efforts, the exhibition promotes menstrual hygiene management and climate change awareness among school-aged individuals.

Overall, the “Undo the Taboo” arts competition is a crucial component of the campaign, mobilizing resources, raising awareness, and promoting creative expression to challenge taboos surrounding menstruation and advocate for sustainable menstrual hygiene practices in schools.
